丙型肝炎可呈急性（短期）或慢性（长期）病程，病情严重程度差异较大，轻者症状轻微，重者可出现危及生命的肝损害[1]。常见症状包括发热、乏力、食欲不振、恶心、呕吐、腹痛、尿色加深以及皮肤或眼睛黄染（黄疸）[1]。部分感染者可进展为包括肝硬化和肝细胞癌在内的严重终身性疾病[1]。
全球估计约有4700万人患有慢性丙型肝炎病毒感染，每年新发感染约90万例[1]。世卫组织2024年估计，约有23.9万人死于丙型肝炎，主要死因为肝硬化和肝细胞癌（原发性肝癌）[1]。丙型肝炎在全球范围内通过血液接触途径传播，并在医院相关结局（如住院率、住院天数和再入院率）方面对医疗系统产生显著影响，直接作用抗病毒药物的使用有助于降低此类负担[2]。
