Study design

A randomized, double-blinded, positive-controlled clinical trial (Phase III), conducted in Bijie, Guizhou Province, China, with participants randomized 1:1 to experimental or control vaccine arms.

Population and setting

Individuals aged 18 years and above, recruited in Bijie, Guizhou Province, China, with serum samples collected pre-vaccination, 30 days post-vaccination, and at 6 months in the first 240 participants.

Main findings

At 30 days post-vaccination, the experimental vaccine produced a higher antibody GMC (3.205 vs 2.387; P=0.0012) and GMI (35.529 vs 27.604; P=0.0026) than control, with comparable seroconversion (89.07% vs 87.47%; P=0.6149) and seropositivity rates. At 6 months, GMC, seropositivity, and GMI differences were not statistically significant between groups. The authors conclude the experimental vaccine shows good immunogenicity in this age group.
